Understanding the Child Care Subsidy (CCS)

The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is designed to help reduce the cost of approved child care for eligible Australian families.

Your CCS entitlement is based on three main factors:

Your family’s income
Your level of recognised activity (such as work, study or volunteering)
The hourly rate cap and your centre’s fees

Depending on your circumstances, you could receive up to 85% off your child care fees, with up to 100 subsidised hours of care per fortnight.

Once your CCS is approved, the government pays the subsidy directly to Little Big People Early Learning, and you pay the remaining amount.

Who can get the Child Care Subsidy in QLD?

To be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), your family needs to meet a few requirements. Your child must be aged 13 or under and not attending secondary school. You (and your partner, if applicable) must be engaged in recognised activities like work, study, training or volunteering. Your family income also needs to fall within the government’s set thresholds.
Plus, your child must attend an approved child care provider—like Little Big People Early Learning.

How do I apply for CCS?

Applying is simple and done online through your myGov account. Once submitted, Services Australia will assess your application and let you know how much subsidy you’re entitled to.

How much subsidy will I receive?

Your CCS amount depends on several factors, including your family’s income, how many children you have in care, your activity level, and the type of care you use. Once approved, you’ll be notified of your subsidy percentage and how many hours of care are covered each fortnight.

What if my child is away from care?

The subsidy covers up to 42 absence days per child each financial year, including public holidays and sick days. In certain situations—like illness or family emergencies—you may be eligible for additional absences.

What happens if my income changes?

If your income or circumstances change, update your details through myGov as soon as possible. This ensures your CCS stays accurate and helps avoid any overpayments or underpayments.

Do I need to renew my CCS each year?

Yes—each year, you’ll need to confirm your family’s details to keep receiving CCS. Services Australia will remind you when it’s time to review and update your information.

We’re proud to offer Queensland’s Free Kindy program at Little Big People Early Learning. This means eligible children can attend a government-approved Kindergarten program at no cost (15 hours per week, 40 weeks a year), giving every child the chance to benefit from a high-quality early learning experience before starting school.

Led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher, our Kindy program is designed to build confidence, curiosity and key developmental skills through play-based learning. From exploring nature and making friends to early literacy and numeracy experiences, your child will be supported every step of the way in a nurturing and inspiring environment.

Free Kindy is available for children who are:

At least 4 years old by 30 June in the year they attend kindy
Enrolled 15 hours per week, 40 weeks a year
