Celebrating Book Week: Fostering a Love for Reading

At Little Big People, Book Week is a cherished opportunity to ignite a love of reading that lasts a lifetime. We believe that early exposure to books helps children develop language, creativity, focus, and empathy—and Book Week is the perfect time to reinforce these foundations in fun and memorable ways.

To foster a genuine love for books, we:

  • Create inviting reading spaces with soft lighting, cushions, and book displays themed around children’s interests.
  • Offer choice and agency by allowing children to select what books we read during group time.
  • Use dramatic storytelling techniques, such as expressive voices and props, to bring stories to life.

Our educators are intentional in choosing books that reflect diverse experiences and cultures, helping children see themselves and others in the stories they hear. We also introduce Australian authors and illustrators whose voices and themes resonate with our community.

To keep the momentum going at home, we send families book lists, conversation starters, and tips for creating simple bedtime reading routines.

When books are shared with joy and purpose, they become more than just stories—they become memories.
