We know that small hands can make a big difference. That’s why we embed sustainability into everything we do — from the way we recycle and compost to the way we talk about caring for Country and respecting the world around us.
Teaching children to love and care for the environment from an early age helps shape the kind of future we all want: kinder, more thoughtful, and more connected to nature.
Everyday Eco-Choices
In our learning spaces, sustainability is a lived value — not just a topic we talk about once a year. Children are actively involved in:
- Sorting recycling and compost after meals.
- Tending to our veggie gardens and learning about where food comes from.
- Reusing materials in craft and construction.
- Saving water and learning about responsible use.
- Caring for plants and animals in our outdoor play spaces.
These everyday actions show children that even small choices have an impact — and that they’re capable of looking after their world.
Connecting to Country
As part of our commitment to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, we talk with the children about caring for Country and respecting the land we learn and play on. We explore stories and practices that help children understand that the environment isn’t separate from us — it’s part of who we are.
This helps build a deeper sense of responsibility, respect and connection to place.
Nature Play and Outdoor Learning
We spend plenty of time outside — not just for play, but for learning too. Being outdoors helps children develop a love for the natural world and a sense of calm and wonder. From spotting insects in the garden to noticing changes in the weather, these small moments help children become curious, observant, and appreciative of the environment.
Families as Eco-Partners
Sustainability is something we do together — and families play a huge role. We love when parents share ideas, bring in materials for reuse, or chat with us about how they’re encouraging eco-conscious habits at home.
Whether it’s using less plastic, walking to kindy, or planting herbs together — every little step matters.
At Little Big People, we’re not just teaching children about the environment — we’re empowering them to be part of it, care for it, and make thoughtful choices every day. After all, our little learners today will be the caretakers of tomorrow’s world.
